Work with us
City Care Partnership is a dynamic and active employer. We are always looking to recruit staff who share our values.
What We Do
At City Care Partnership, we have always developed our services to meet the needs of individuals who would often struggle in mainstream community services.
What has your career path been prior to your current role? |
After leaving school I went to college to study for a BTec in sport. I left and became a roofer and then a personal trainer and lifeguard before applying to become a Support Worker.
|
Can you give a brief overview of your career at City Care? |
I saw an advertisement for a Support worker role with City Care Partnership in 2014. I applied and got the job. I started work at a house supporting three people before moving to a larger service 18 months later. I recently got promoted and became a Flexi Support worker and I’m now required to work flexibly and support ten people. |
Can you give an insight into your average day including tasks, responsibilities and typical duties? |
I come into work and we do the morning handover. After handover, we support people to get ready for their day ahead and complete any morning routines. By lunchtime, we’re out doing the daily activities. This can be supporting someone to work, going on a family visit or hiking. |
How has City Care supported you in the progression of your career? |
I’ve had different managers who have all helped me. I get lots of training and supervision and I’ve also been really lucky to learn from experienced staff. |
What would you say is the best part of your job? |
Seeing the people we support progress and develop and getting to know and work with their families |
Where are you going from here? Do you have further career plans or are you happy within the role you currently do? |
I’ve just been promoted to a new role which has new responsibilities and a pay increase so I'm very happy at the moment! |

Please explain your role at City Care |
I feel proud that my role facilitates a number of people with Learning Disabilities and Autism to have a better quality of life. My daily role is to lead a team of staff who support the individual we work with to access and lead an active community-based life.
We have a weekly schedule which shows him what he will be doing each day but also allows him elements of choice; the activities include shopping, a visit to the beaches, a canal boat trip, hiking, swimming and many walks in a number of parks. The individual we support lives in his own flat but we are there to help and guide him whenever he requires assistance. |
Can you give a brief overview of your career to date? |
I joined Greater Manchester Police as a police cadet in 1978 and then became a constable in 1980. After an amazing 32 years, I retired and initially worked as an insurance investigator for two years. I then decided to apply to be a support worker as throughout my police service I had often dealt with people with learning disabilities and always believed my past experience and compassionate nature would be beneficial. I decided to enter into support work to further my life skills and give something back to the community for the career I enjoyed. I joined City Care after a former colleague mentioned they were a forward-thinking company with some great ideas to enhance the lives of the people they supported.I joined City Care Partnership in September 2012. I have to say I have really enjoyed the role and pride myself that I have assisted people with learning disabilities and Autism to enjoy a better quality of life and more importantly a community presence with the same access to activities that the rest of society are able to enjoy. I have worked across many of the services and supported a broad spectrum of individuals; yes there are times when I feel challenged by situations but we receive excellent training and there is always support available from managers, colleagues and City Care’s on-call team. As my confidence and knowledge improved, I strived to better myself by undertaking a certificate and diploma in Positive Behavioural Support, a level three QCF in Health and Social Care and this led to where I am now, in the position of Assistant Team Leader which I am really proud of. |
Can you give an insight into your average day including tasks, responsibilities and typical duties? |
My daily tasks involve leading a team, this includes ensuring staff are deployed and standards maintained to meet the culture and values of City Care Partnership. This can include ensuring the right levels of health care. I also work as a support worker on daily activities but have two days where I complete administration to ensure we meet the Care Quality Commission regulations |
How has City Care supported you in the progression of your career? |
I feel very grateful to City Care Partnership for the opportunities they have provided me with. From day one the training has been first class and I have been offered the opportunities to progress my career. I was offered the opportunity to undertake a certificate in Positive Behavioural Support which I passed and that was really interesting. This led me to request further training and have now completed the Diploma in Positive Behavioural Support. The course is usually offered to managers but my enthusiasm for the course was recognised and I was enrolled onto this higher level as well. Having obtained the diploma I undertook a level 3 in Health and Social Care. I then applied to join the Apprentice Assistant Team Leader programme which was an eighteen-month course designed to provide staff with the knowledge and skills to become a manager. This was very hard work but I felt supported and had a mentor throughout. I successfully completed the course and it gave me the knowledge and skills I needed for my promotion to Assistant Team Leader. I feel honoured that the company have given me so much support to reach this point and look forward to moving to a higher management position when I feel qualified to apply.

What would you say is the best part of your job? |
Teamwork is at the forefront, having a team that shares my aspirations to improve the lives of the people we support. I love the fact we are out in the community every day forward-thinking and I know we are doing a good job when we see the individual we support smiling and growing in confidence. |
Where are you going from here, do you have further career plans or are you happy within the role you currently do? |
I am currently really happy where I am for now. Longer term, when I feel qualified and more confident in my abilities, I would like to progress up the management structure to become a Team Leader |
