Our values are to champion diversity and challenge inequality. It is all our responsibility to safeguard the people we support from any form of abuse or exploitation.
Definition of abuse
Abuse is the violation of an individual's human and civil rights by any other person or persons.
This occurs in many forms and may consist of a single act or repeated acts. It may also be shown by a failure to act in order to prevent abuse occurring. Abuse may, or may not, result in the person being physically injured or ill.
Prevention of abuse
Through an induction programme for new staff within their first 6 months, and to be refreshed regularly throughout their employment, staff will be supported and trained:
Staff will be provided with regular formal supervision and on-going support in the job.
The registered manager and staff will have routine links with other agencies concerned with the well-being of those we support e.g. the placing authority, schools, hospitals, general practitioners and will not work in isolation from them.
Our culture does not tolerate abuse, neglect or exploitation including;
The Service User Sub-group of the Cheshire East Safeguarding Adults Board created this spoken word video working with the Axis Arts Centre at Crewe Campus, Manchester Metropolitan University.
Roles
City Care will also adhere to any multi-agency-agreed approach to the protection of adults, including any policy arising from Manchester Safeguarding Adults Board Multi Agency Policy 2015 see Manchester Safeguarding Adults Board for more information
City Care is responsible for ensuring that reports of possible abuse are both facilitated and responded to. We are also responsible for bringing any allegation of abuse to the attention of a designated officer representing the purchasing authority and the police, where this is appropriate.
The purchasing authority will provide appropriate assistance in investigating and responding to allegations of abuse.
If a crime has been committed then the police should be informed immediately. The police will lead all criminal investigations.
All disclosures or allegations of abuse should be recorded in writing. The individual involved should be reassured but not questioned.
The Registered manager will inform CQC of any allegations which are reported to the police within 24 hours of them being notified.
If anyone feels that their concerns have not been listened to or acted upon then they should inform a Director in the organisation.

Where a disclosure or allegation is made against a staff member from City Care, that staff member will be removed from the workplace where the alleged victim resides.
It will be decided if the staff member concerned should be suspended or placed in a supervised workplace. This decision is at the discretion of City Care until a full investigation has been held.
Members of Staff subject to allegations made against them will have access to information and support during the process of the investigation although they should not contact colleagues who may be involved in the investigation.
