Why Some Services Were Rated ‘Requires Improvement’

Like many care providers, the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic had an undeniable impact on service delivery and continuity. Some of our services were inspected during periods of transition and recovery, leading to ratings that did not reflect our usual standards.

We responded immediately and strategically.

Since those inspections, City Care has:

Overhauled our quality assurance systems across all services
Enhanced induction and training, reducing time to competency from 4 months to just 1.4 months
Implemented digital platforms (Nourish care planning and e-MAR) to improve safety and accuracy
Introduced Practice Lead roles and strengthened leadership at every level
Appointed a Health & Safety Manager to oversee robust new compliance processes
Completed audits in partnership with local authorities and external experts (e.g., Qualis Solutions)
Introduced an annual quality audit aligned with the CQC’s Single Assessment Framework
Renovated older properties to improve environments and promote independence
Implemented the PBS Champion digital tool to analyse and respond to behavioural data more effectively

We’re not content with “Good.” Our goal is to ensure that every City Care service meets and sustains an Outstanding standard. We are investing in people, systems, training and environments — all aligned with what matters most: the wellbeing and autonomy of the people we support.
