City Care Partnership is a dynamic and active employer. We are always looking to recruit staff who share our values.
What We Do
At City Care Partnership, we have always developed our services to meet the needs of individuals who would often struggle in mainstream community services.
Physical activity either 1:1 or within a social group setting is a basic right for all to access. We know that sociable, fun physical activities and structured exercise work to maintain a healthy weight, help prevent serious chronic diseases, and has many benefits that help promote physical health.
Evidence shows that regular exercise significantly improves heart, brain and lung health. Other benefits are often hard to quantify such as; better sleep, better cognition, being in a pressure-free environment to meet people, having fun, and gaining an improved sense of well-being.
City Care has two main hike days on a Monday and Thursday. Monday has an additional Hike which is tailored towards individuals who struggle with fitness and require a shorter walk which helps them build strength and fitness if they wish to progress to the longer hike.
Walking has benefits beyond the merely physical, and many people walk as much for the mental and spiritual well being as for fitness. Life can be hectic, and stress can build up without being noticed.
Walking causes the release of calming brain chemicals called endorphins, which are naturally calming, while dispelling any build-up of adrenaline produced in times of stress or anxiety.
If the adrenaline isn’t released from the body, it accumulates, causing muscle tension and exasperates feelings of anxiety. A study tested 36 walkers for anxiety, tension and blood pressure levels before, during, and after 40 minutes of walking. Results showed immediate decreases in tension and anxiety, as well as blood pressure, after walking, regardless of how fast or slow the participants walked.
Despite evidence and government campaigns such as Change4life to promote physically active lifestyles, few are active enough to be of benefit to general health. In England for example 29% of adults do less than 30 minutes of moderate exercise per week.
City Care is an avid supporter of keeping fit and healthy and can see the clear benefits of walking groups both as an effective way of increasing physical health and improving associated health indicators but also in promoting and maintaining relationships and enjoying the social nature of a group walk.
The sense of freedom you get when you are out hill or mountain, walking and enjoying stunning views is immense, providing an undeniable feeling of well-being and achievement.
